Kirill Burygin is a Moscow-based artist originally from Siberia. His primitivist painting draws on popular and folk culture, combining the spirit of 1960s and 1970s music, acid westerns, tattoos, folklore and traditions from different countries. His personal experiences become the mythology of his characters and the expressive worlds they inhabit.
Kirill works with wooden boards, surfboards, chairs and other everyday objects to bring his characters into daily life. He aims to show that art can be funny, strange, absurd and free from markets, fashion, commercial censorship and the conventional art system.
In his world, art is more than conceptual manifestos or serious works that need decoding: sometimes it is simply honesty and courage. He regularly exhibits at leading art platforms, including Cosmoscow.
